Brighton Face Injury Woes Ahead of FA Cup Clash with Newcastle

Brighton and Hove Albion head into Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Newcastle United with several injury concerns, casting a shadow over their quest for silverware. Despite a recent upturn in form, including wins over Chelsea, Bournemouth, and Southampton, the Seagulls must navigate a growing list of absentees as they aim to reach the quarter-finals for the second time in four seasons.

Injury Blow for Brighton
Manager Fabian Hurzeler has confirmed that captain Lewis Dunk is unlikely to feature as he continues his recovery from a back injury sustained during Brighton’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the previous round. Dunk’s absence is a significant setback for the Seagulls, who are already dealing with a stretched squad.

When asked about the injury situation, Hurzeler said, “So far, there is no other change. Hopefully, it stays like this. We are looking forward to our skipper [Dunk] being back, but I think the game on Sunday will be a little bit too early for him.”

Squad Rotation and Freshness Key
Hurzeler emphasized the need to balance his squad, with several players returning from injury and others needing rest after recent heavy workloads. “We have some players who came back after an injury, some who haven’t played much in the Premier League, and others like Tariq [Lamptey] and Adam [Webster], who have played a lot recently due to our injury crisis. We need to field the freshest and most ready team on Sunday,” he explained.

Brighton will look to replicate their league victory at St James’ Park in October, but with key players sidelined and fatigue a factor, Hurzeler faces a tough task in selecting his strongest lineup.

As the Seagulls turn their focus to the FA Cup, their injury woes add an extra layer of challenge to their pursuit of a place in the last eight. Fans will hope the squad can rise to the occasion and keep their dreams of major silverware alive.
