Adam Wharton Eyes FA Cup Glory for Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is focused on securing a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals as the Eagles prepare to face south London rivals Millwall this Saturday. The match marks the first time the two sides have met at Selhurst Park since Palace’s promotion season in 2012, reigniting a long-standing local rivalry.

Palace booked their spot in the fifth round with a win over League Two’s Doncaster, while Millwall overcame Championship side Leeds. The last encounter between the two teams was in 2022, when Palace claimed a 2-1 victory at The Den in the FA Cup third round, thanks to goals from Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

A win on Saturday would see Palace reach the quarter-finals for only the fourth time since 1996, putting them just one step away from a Wembley appearance. Wharton, who recently made his first Premier League start after four months out, is determined to help his team progress.

“We have to win and get to the next round of the FA Cup,” Wharton told the *News Shopper*. “It is a massive game for the fans. We go into it the same as we do every game, trying to win and progress into the next round.”

The 21-year-old also highlighted the importance of a strong atmosphere, saying, “When the atmosphere is good, then it is always nice to play in those games. It was top against Aston Villa, probably the best it has been this season. If the atmosphere is top, then hopefully we can back it up with the performance.”

Wharton believes Palace have what it takes to go all the way in the competition, adding, “Hopefully, we can get through to the later stages of the FA Cup and be close or have a chance at winning a trophy. Absolutely [we can win it].”

With a passionate derby atmosphere and a place in the quarter-finals at stake, Palace will be aiming to take one step closer to FA Cup glory under the guidance of Oliver Glasner.
