Oliver Glasner loses in-form midfielder for upcoming Premier League matches.
Crystal Palace will be without key midfielder Will Hughes for the next two Premier League games after he received his 10th yellow card of the season against Aston Villa on Tuesday night. The suspension rules him out of crucial fixtures against Ipswich Town and Southampton.
This marks the second time Hughes has been sidelined due to yellow card accumulation. Earlier this season, he missed a match against Fulham after picking up five bookings in the first 10 games. The 29-year-old has since received further cautions against Ipswich, Southampton, and Manchester United, leading to his latest suspension.
Hughes, who has made 23 league appearances this season, will still be available for Crystal Palace’s FA Cup clash against Millwall, as his ban applies only to Premier League fixtures. Known for his relentless style of play, Hughes earned praise for his performance in Palace’s recent 2-0 win over Fulham. BBC Sport highlighted his “full-blooded, lung-busting, pit-bull performances” and credited his tough tackling for shaping the game.
With his contract set to expire this summer, talks over an extension are already underway. Crystal Palace hold an option to extend his deal by another year, but discussions are ongoing regarding a longer agreement. Manager Oliver Glasner expressed confidence in the negotiations, stating that all parties—Hughes, the club, and his agent—must reach a fair deal.
Glasner also emphasized Hughes’ importance to the team, praising his football intelligence, quick passing, and leadership on and off the pitch. He highlighted the midfielder’s role in organizing set plays and motivating teammates, calling him a vital presence in the squad.
