Stoke City goalkeeper Tommy Simkin has expressed his delight, saying he’s “over the moon” after securing a new contract with the club.
Stoke City have secured the future of young goalkeeper Tommy Simkin by signing him to a new three-and-a-half-year contract. The 20-year-old, currently on loan at League Two side Walsall, has been a standout performer for the Saddlers this season, making 34 appearances and keeping 12 clean sheets.
Simkin’s Delight and Ambitions
After signing his new deal, Simkin expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m over the moon to be here and to continue my journey. I love being a Stoke City player, and my family loves me being part of the club. My aim is to be Stoke City’s number one in the future, and every game I play on loan gives me more experience and takes me closer to that goal.”
He also praised his time at Walsall, saying, “Walsall has been an unbelievable experience. I live five minutes from the ground, so while I’m not an academy player there, I feel like one of their own. Playing consistently has been massive for my development at my age and has given me consistency in my game.”
Stoke’s Goalkeeping Options
Simkin, who joined Walsall last summer to gain first-team experience, has thrived under manager Mat Sadler as the Saddlers push for promotion to League One. The England youth international is set to return to Stoke later this year, where the club will decide his next steps. Currently, Stoke’s goalkeeping options include Viktor Johansson and Jack Bonham.
A product of Stoke’s academy, Simkin has spent his entire career with the Potters, progressing through their youth ranks and making one first-team appearance. He has also gained valuable experience from previous loan spells at AFC Fylde, Solihull Moors, and Forest Green Rovers.
What’s Next for Stoke?
Stoke City, fresh off a 3-1 victory over Swansea City, will face Norwich City this weekend as they aim to build momentum in their campaign. With Simkin’s development on track, the club will be weighing their options for his role next season as they plan for the future.
