Tottenham Hotspur’s injury concerns seemed to ease ahead of their Premier League clash against Manchester United, as they welcomed back several sidelined players. However, their luck might not hold, as midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was seen with an ice pack on his knee after the match.
Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison made their returns to the starting XI, and their impact was immediate. Vicario kept a clean sheet while Maddison scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. Additionally, Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, and Wilson Odobert were fit enough to make the bench, with Johnson and Odobert both coming on in the second half.
Despite these returns, Tottenham’s midfield depth was once again tested. Although Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, and Archie Gray stepped in, Bentancur’s injury poses a significant blow to Ange Postecoglou’s options in the middle of the park.
Bentancur, who had already faced a season of interruptions—including a head injury, suspension, and concussions—has been a vital part of Tottenham’s midfield in recent games, helping the team to back-to-back Premier League victories against Brentford and Manchester United. At just 27, with over 200 club appearances and 67 caps for Uruguay, his experience is key as Spurs aim to push into the top half of the table.
