Newcastle United suffered a crushing 4-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday.
Newcastle United were thoroughly outplayed, suffering a heavy defeat to Manchester City.
Omar Marmoush opened the scoring with a brilliant lob over Martin Dubravka in the 19th minute. He followed up with two more goals in 14 minutes to secure a rapid hat-trick, marking the fourth-fastest by a City player in Premier League history. James McAtee sealed the win with a late fourth, leaving Newcastle unable to break into the top four.
Manager Eddie Howe will be frustrated with his team’s overall performance, especially with Kieran Trippier’s struggles. The 34-year-old right-back started the match but failed to justify his selection. He misjudged a long ball that led to Marmoush’s opener and was outpaced for the second goal soon after.
Howe replaced Trippier with Tino Livramento at halftime after a poor showing. Trippier recorded fewer touches than Dubravka (27), lost all his duels, committed three fouls, and gave away possession three times. He failed to register a tackle but managed one interception and one clearance.
Given his struggles, Howe may drop Trippier for the next match against Nottingham Forest.
