Nottingham Forest edged past Exeter on penalties in the FA Cup earlier this week, with Jota Silva earning a rare start.
Forest progressed to the next round of the FA Cup after a 4-2 win on penalties following a 2-2 draw in 120 minutes. However, the Reds were a bit lucky to come out on top. Fans were frustrated with Jota Silva’s performance, as he struggled throughout the match and missed a key chance to seal the win before extra time.
Silva joined Nottingham Forest for £5.9 million from Vitoria in the summer but has yet to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. So far, he’s mostly been used as an impact substitute.
Despite his struggles, Silva doesn’t seem too fazed by his current form and is already looking ahead to the future. He told *A Bola* he’s eager to remain at Forest beyond this season and has ambitious goals.
“I really want to make history at Nottingham Forest,” Silva said. “I want to play UEFA Champions League regularly. I want to be called up to the national team. I want to win the Premier League. I want people to see that I’m ready to take on new flights and make my family proud.”
Silva has shown flashes of promise, scoring against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and netting his first Premier League goal against Brighton in Forest’s 7-0 victory. He seems determined to take his chance in the Premier League, and his comments suggest he wants to build a long-term future at the club.
Still, Silva’s inconsistency—especially his tendency to fall easily in hopes of winning fouls—has frustrated fans. If Forest qualifies for European football, they’ll need a deeper squad. However, manager Nuno Espirito Santo typically prefers smaller, high-quality squads.
The final 14 games of the season will be crucial for Silva. If he doesn’t improve his consistency, he may find himself moving on to a new club next summer.
