Crystal Palace to open contract talks with Mateta!

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid eye Crystal Palace striker Mateta, but the Eagles aim to lock him into a new deal!

La Liga Interest for Mateta
Jean-Philippe Mateta is attracting attention from La Liga ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider. Both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are keen on signing the Crystal Palace striker. However, the Eagles are determined to secure the 27-year-old with a new long-term contract, and talks are expected soon.

Mateta’s Rise at Palace
Mateta has steadily developed since joining Crystal Palace in January 2021. Initially arriving on loan, he made his move permanent a year later. Under Oliver Glasner’s guidance, the French forward has flourished, scoring 13 goals and providing two assists in 29 appearances this season.

His strong performances have caught the attention of several top European clubs. However, while a move to La Liga is possible, Crystal Palace are determined to hold onto their star striker with a long-term deal.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid’s Interest
Barcelona’s interest stems from their need for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who is nearing the end of his career. Mateta has become a potential target for the Catalan side.

Atletico Madrid also see Mateta as a key option if Antoine Griezmann leaves this summer. His departure would leave a major gap in their attacking line, making Mateta a logical fit for the role.

Lyon is also in the race for the striker, but Palace’s push for a new contract could hinder any potential moves. As negotiations are set to begin, it remains to be seen if Mateta will stay or explore new horizons.
