Stoke City boss Mark Robins hails Favour Fawunmi’s talent and predicts a bright future for the youngster.
Stoke City secured winger Favour Fawunmi from West Ham last week, immediately handing him his first-team debut against Cardiff City.
The Potters played out a 3-3 draw in the FA Cup fourth round at the Bet365 Stadium, with Lewis Koumas scoring twice and Lewis Baker also finding the net. However, they ultimately lost on penalties.
After the match, manager Mark Robins praised Fawunmi, telling *StokeOnTrentLive*:
“Sometimes a young player comes in and shows no fear, and he certainly did that. He’s got really nice feet, a good touch, and good qualities. He’s still learning, he’s only 18, but he’s got a bright future.
“We saw him on Tuesday, and he signed on Friday morning, so we got him registered and ready to go. We needed that spark to take the game to an opponent rather than letting them dictate to us.”
Stoke City’s Rising Talent
Fawunmi is seen as a long-term prospect for Stoke City. In the short term, he will add depth to their attack and compete for minutes on the pitch.
The 18-year-old progressed through West Ham’s academy, featuring regularly at youth levels. After his scholarship deal ended, he was offered an extension but declined, opening the door for Stoke to secure his signature. Now, he will be aiming for more opportunities under Robins.
What’s Next for Stoke?
Following their FA Cup exit, Stoke City return to league action on Wednesday with an away clash against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Robins’ men will look to build on their 2-1 win over Hull City, where Ali Al-Hamadi and Andy Moran found the net. Currently 18th in the Championship, the Potters sit four points clear of the relegation zone.
