Leeds United may be leading the Championship at the moment, but one team is ahead of them in terms of average home attendances this season in the second division.
The Whites are currently in a strong position to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League and move past their play-off final loss from the previous season after making an impression under Daniel Farke so far in the 2024–25 campaign.
Leeds boasts the greatest home record in the Championship with 13 victories, two draws, and only one loss thanks in part to Elland Road’s continued bounce over the most of the season.
Therefore, supporters will be confident that the team can extend their unbeaten record in front of their own fans, which will increase their lead at the top of the Championship, especially since West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland, two teams vying for promotion, are the next two teams scheduled to visit West Yorkshire in the league.
Another team in the division has a greater average attendance at this point in the season, despite the fact that Elland Road is known for being one of the hardest places to obtain a result from in the second division.
This season, Sunderland has the most fans in the Championship.
Sunderland is the only team in the Championship with a greater average attendance thus far in the 2024–2025 campaign.
Given that Elland Road can only hold 37,645, and the Black Cats have an average attendance of 38,546, it is undeniable that Leeds could not have exceeded their number.
Transfermarkt reports that Sunderland has the largest average attendance in the Championship at 38,546, followed by Leeds in second place with 36,181 and Derby County in third place with 29,083.
Given the Stadium of Light’s 48,707 capacity, it is undeniable that Leeds supporters occupy a larger proportion of the seats at Elland Road than Sunderland supporters do there.

However, given that Leeds and Sunderland are presently ranked first and second in the Championship’s home form chart, respectively, it’s possible that the strong attendance from both fan bases this season had an effect on the field.
In the future, Leeds United’s average attendance should be higher.
Leeds will undoubtedly see an increase in average attendance in the future, and they hope that this will have an impact on Premier League average attendance rates rather than Championship ones.
The club intends to renovate Elland Road, increasing its capacity from 37,645 to almost 53,000. This will make the stadium the sixth largest in the nation and allow thousands more Leeds supporters to see a game.
By upgrading Elland Road, the stadium will be able to compete with other top European stadiums and achieve UEFA Category 4 designation. Additionally, it is hoped that the stadium’s distinctive atmosphere remains intact.
Leeds will undoubtedly be able to boast a greater average attendance figure than the one they have managed this season in the years to come, especially considering the size of their fan base and the possibility that they will be a top-flight team by the time the upgraded stadium is finished.
