Coventry City had been holding their breath for what felt like the fifth consecutive transfer window, hoping to hold onto as many important names as possible until the deadline for any transactions arrived.
Viktor Gyokeres, Callum O’Hare, and Gus Hamer are just a few of the Sky Blues’ many players who have drawn varying degrees of attention in recent years. They all shone in the Midlands before transferring abroad, and the present group is still doing well in the second division.
However, by February 3 of this year, Frank Lampard was able to add Matt Grimes to his center midfield options for the second half of the season, while only Fabio Tavares had been sent to Burton Albion for the rest of the campaign.
They may now unwind, but it won’t be long until Cov supporters are on high alert once more. We asked Football League World’s City fan analyst Dan McDermott to predict who players would be leaving during the off-season.
Ben Sheaf is predicted to leave Coventry City in the summer.
Given that Ben Sheaf has been with the team for four and a half years and has proven to be a master of the midfield, there have been rumors about his future for a while.
Even though he is now sidelined due to injury, the former Arsenal player exudes style as he raids the middle of the field and will probably continue to have an impression after he heals from a muscular problem.
That performance has not gone ignored elsewhere, as Championship leaders Leeds United are rumored to be interested, along with Fulham, Ipswich Town, and Luton.
It is therefore not surprising that McDermott described the 26-year-old as a vital player who is probably leaving the team soon, given his contract status does not support Cov’s position on the subject.
“As a Cov supporter, we all know that there is a good chance that two, or perhaps even three, of our key players leave the club this summer,” Dan told FLW. “Now, I would love to name just one player.”

Statistics are accurate as of February 6, 2025.
With little over 18 months remaining on his contract, Ben Sheaf is at the top of that list. He is approaching the end of his contract year, and there is no discussion about a new one.
Since we now have Matt Grimes, I believe it is quite likely that we will cash in this summer. While I would love to see both of them wearing City shirts, I don’t think that will happen; I believe Sheaf will be leaving.
Haji Wright and Milan Van Ewijk are expected to leave Coventry City in 2025.
Sheaf is not the only player whose name has been connected to leaving the team in recent weeks and months; full-back Milan Van Ewijk is also rumored to have recently drawn attention.
The Premier League team Fulham is now again at the forefront of the pursuit for the Dutchman; ESPN Netherlands reported as much last month, but no deal materialized.
The inclusion of Haji Wright on the list is also not surprising, since the American international scored 23 goals in 59 league appearances while playing for the Sky Blues, which reportedly made fierce rivals Leicester City and Ipswich Town sniff about.
Then there is Milan van Ewijk, who showed interest in January just gone and has shown interest in the summer, so I believe there is a high chance he will show interest this summer, McDermott added.
There are two people there that will be associated with leaving, but to be honest, I believe Haji Wright will also be close to the top of the list.
“But in my opinion, Ben Sheaf is the most important one, and I believe he will leave in the summer.”
