Van Nistelrooy stated on Thursday that there were “light injuries” in the City squad, which is why Jannik Vestergaard, Victor Kristiansen, and Jamie Vardy are not present at Old Trafford. Luke Thomas and Patson Daka make their second starts under the Dutchman at left-back and up forward, while Okoli enters at the back.

In the fourth change, Harry Winks is replaced in the midfield by Wilfred Ndidi, who is back to playing after missing two months due to a hamstring injury. Jeremy Monga, a 15-year-old winger, and Jake Evans, a 16-year-old attacker, are on Winks’ bench, even though van Nistelrooy stated both would be among the substitutes.
Woyo Coulibaly’s quest for his first City start continues as James Justin begins at right-back and Mads Hermansen, the team’s top goalie, stays in goal. Under Steve Cooper’s changes, the most popular center-back combination is Wout Faes and Okoli.
Ndidi and Boubakary Soumare are building a new midfield that began van Nistelrooy’s first two games. And for the third game, the three-man attacking line behind the striker stays the same: Bilal El Khannouss in the middle, Bobby De Cordova-Reid on the left, and Jordan Ayew on the right.

As van Nistelrooy’s attacking alternatives, Facundo Buonanotte, Kasey McAteer, and Stephy Mavididi join Monga on the bench. There isn’t a recognized striker in reserve, though, as Odsonne Edouard is once again left out.
Ayew, El Khannouss, De Cordova-Reid; Daka; Ndidi, Soumare; Hermansen; Justin, Faes, Okoli, Thomas; City (4-2-3-1). Coady, Winks, Skipp, McAteer, Mavididi, Monga, Buonanotte, Stolarczyk, and Coulibaly were substitutes.
