Chris Sutton shares his FA Cup fourth-round predictions, including Stoke City’s clash with Cardiff.
Chris Sutton is backing his former Norwich teammate Mark Robins to lead Stoke City to a dominant FA Cup win over Cardiff this weekend.
In his BBC predictions column, Sutton is competing against the band Doves to guess the correct scorelines. However, he admits his 4-0 prediction for Stoke is more about teasing his Cardiff-supporting friend and fellow BBC presenter Jason Mohammad than pure analysis.
Stoke, currently 18th in the Championship, are coming off a 2-1 win at Hull, marking Robins’ first league victory since taking charge on New Year’s Day. The Potters also won their FA Cup third-round tie against Sunderland, giving them a decent run under their new boss.
Cardiff, sitting 19th in the table and just one point behind Stoke, suffered a crushing 7-0 defeat at Leeds last weekend, making Sutton even more confident in his prediction.
Reflecting on Cardiff’s heavy loss, Sutton joked: “I wish I had been on Final Score with Jason Mohammad last Saturday. He was excited about live updates from Leeds – until his team lost 7-0. I’m afraid I have more bad news for him because I think Cardiff are going out of the FA Cup too.”
He added, “Stoke have improved under Robins, and while my predictions are usually scientific, this one is more about winding up Jason than anything else.”
