According to a recent report by writer Santi Aouna, Sunderland is reportedly preparing an offer for a 23-year-old striker who has scored a goal every two league games this season.
In addition to being a crucial derby match, Monday night’s trip to Middlesbrough for the Black Cats is also a crucial encounter for both teams in the Championship.
By the time the game begins, all of Sunderland’s top-tier opponents will have played, so Regis Le Bris’ team will know what they need to do to either close the gap on their opponents vying for promotion or maintain contact with them.
The Black Cats still have time to add players during the current transfer window; Chuba Akpom has been linked to a move to the Stadium of Light. He moved from Boro to play for Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax in 2023, but he apparently like the prospect of playing English football again.
Semih Kilicsoy, a forward for Besiktas, has also been supported to join Sunderland in the near future as his new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer considers whether or not to keep him on board.
A bid for “absolute top talent” is being prepared by Sunderland.
After a £6.7 million approach for St. Gallen forward Willem Geubbels was turned down, Sunderland is currently contemplating a bid in an attempt to beat Union Berlin to his signature, according to Aouna on X.
Since he was a teenager, Geubbels has been a highly anticipated player, which makes him a fascinating addition to Sunderland.
With 22 caps overall, the 23-year-old has scored 12 goals while playing for France in four different young age categories. In addition, after scoring seven goals in 14 league games for St. Gallen this season, football talent evaluator Jacek Kulig has praised him as a “absolute top talent”.
Geubbels might give Sunderland a little magic in the attack, giving them more firepower in the second half of the season and beyond, and possibly serving as the impetus for their promotion to the Premier League.
