How Newcastle United feels about approving Matt Targett’s transfer following ties to Leeds United

Leeds United made a late interest in Newcastle United defender Matt Targett, and Newcastle’s position on the potential transfer of the left-back has now surfaced.

Daniel Farke has stated that he wants to bolster three areas this month: a striker, a number ten, and a center-back. Leeds is anticipated to attempt to make a few additions before the end of the January transfer window.

However, Leeds were reportedly not considering a left-back in the last few days of the transfer window. Leeds has been holding off on adding players like Ao Tanaka until the last few days of the transfer window.

Leeds has made an attempt to sign Matt Targett as the deadline is on Monday. Following a period of injury absence, the left-back has only made two appearances for Newcastle this season.

The position of Newcastle United on the sale of Matt Targett to Leeds
Targett, an established left-back in the Premier League, cost £15 million to sign with Newcastle and was hailed as “outstanding” by Eddie Howe, according to Sky Sports. Nevertheless, Leeds does not require a new left-back.

However, that can alter. Both Sam Byram and Junior Firpo have contracts that expire in the summer, and Firpo has plenty of admirers. Firpo is being pursued by Real Betis, but Besiktas is also interested in the defender.

Anything might happen in the last few days of the window. The Whites would need a new left-back before Monday’s deadline if Marc Roca and Diego Llorente’s Betis were to attack Leeds for Firpo.

Newcastle World has now revealed the Toon’s position on Targett’s sale. In fact, they state that Newcastle is “open to offers” for Targett in the upcoming days, since his time with the Toon is obviously coming to an end.

The estimated cost of Matt Targett, according to a Newcastle expert
Given the connections between Leeds and Targett, LeedsUnited.News spoke with James Rutherford, a writer for Geordie Boot Boys and an expert on Newcastle, on Targett’s possible transfer from Tyneside to Yorkshire.

Even if it is speculative, he claims that if Leeds do show interest, a move would cost between £7 million and £10 million: “He is not going to command a huge fee – maybe somewhere between £7 million and £10 million.”

Targett, who has previously been linked to Leeds, may be the focus of an inquiry from The Whites, although depending on Firpo’s future, it might not be until the summer before Leeds formally expresses interest.
