It is recommended that Sunderland AFC complete the potentially “priceless” move.

According to the Foot Mercato, Chuba Akpom, a former Championship Golden Boot winner, has been linked to a move to Sunderland, a team vying for promotion, this week.

With just three goals in the Eredivisie this season, the 29-year-old has lost favor in Francesco Farioli’s team. He presently plays for Dutch powerhouse Ajax.

The striker, who was born in London, is well-versed in the Championship after scoring 28 goals for Middlesbrough in the 2022–2023 campaign, which led to his summer transfer to his current team for £12 million.

According to reports, Sunderland, Boro’s North East rivals who are now vying for automatic promotion to the Premier League, are interested in hiring the former England U21 in the hopes that he can return to his incredible goal-scoring ways in the league.

Despite appearing “out of nowhere,” the Sunderland pundit calls for Akpom’s pursuit.

FLW asked Jack Austwicke, a local Sunderland fan pundit, what he thought of the suggested new striker during the rumours: “Even though it came as a surprise, I believe Chuba Akpom would make a really fantastic addition. It caught me off guard.

He scored 28 goals in the Championship alone during his previous season at Middlesbrough, so it would be amazing if he could rediscover that level of play. It’s another matter entirely whether we can locate that form.

“I’ve been told to believe that he has been reasonably decent, even though he hasn’t reached the heights of Ajax. Well, why not?

“He also performs admirably in a 10 position. At Middlesbrough, I recall seeing him trail Cameron Archer during the season.

“I believe he was worth between £10 and 15 million when he joined with Ajax, but as he’s improving, I believe that amount has decreased somewhat since then if we do get him.

“I believe it would be a wise business move if we could sign him for about £10 million. I mean, it’s invaluable if the signing leads to your promotion to the Premier League.

Austwicke probably agrees that anything that helps the promotion campaign will be worth every penny, as every Sunderland fan currently has dreams of playing in the top flight.

Wilson Isidor would have more than worthy opposition in Chuba Akpom.

Despite everything that Sunderland has done well this season, it might be argued that the center-forward position needs some work.

As the games pile up quickly in the final stretch, Chuba Akpom may either be able to improve on Zenit St Petersburg loanee Wilson Isidor or at the at least offer respectable competition, depending on how quickly he acclimates to life in the second division of England.

The rumored interest will probably worry Isidor, whose stock was severely damaged by a terrible performance against Burnley, where he missed two late penalties in a 0-0 stalemate at Turf Moor and failed to score from 2.58 xG.

Isidor is a valuable asset at the Stadium of Light, as Black Cats fans will tell you. But considering their previous shortcomings and the intriguing possibility of a striker with Championship experience on the horizon, the Mackems can be excused for being distracted this week.
