Emmanuel Latte Lath of Middlesbrough has been linked to a move to Leeds United, but Paul Robinson is not persuaded.
Alex Crook speculated that the Whites might make an approach for the 26-year-old striker after Boro’s £6 million deal for Morgan Whittaker was accepted by Plymouth Argyle, a move that has since been made public.
Although a contract has not yet been reached and the transfer window closes in nine days, Latte Lath has been pursuing a £16 million move to MLS team Atlanta United .
“I don’t think they can afford him, and it wouldn’t be a deal that Middlesbrough would sanction,” Robinson stated in an exclusive interview with MOT Leeds News. Why would Middlesbrough bolster a rival in the Championship?
“He’s a good player, Latte Lath, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he moved elsewhere for the £16 million threshold. At 26, he doesn’t score a lot of goals every season, but he does have 13 goals in all competitions and two assists.
He scored three goals in 19 games, 20 in 34, and 19 in 36. Although he is a capable goal scorer at that level, it is unclear if he would perform well in the Premier League, where Leeds appears to be headed.
Will Leeds United lose out on the move of Emmanuel Latte Lath?
I believe Leeds would be overpaying at £16 million for a Championship striker who might or might not be able to succeed in the Premier League. He scored a lot of goals and appears to be a good player at Middlesbrough.
However, at age 26, you might be wondering why hefty transfer fees haven’t been paid for him yet. Leeds is willing to spend £16 million for him after he had a successful season at Boro? To be honest, I believe Leeds would be better off missing it.
Latte Lath would undoubtedly be a player to secure promotion at Elland Road, having already scored 11 goals in the Championship this season—more than Leeds’ leading scorer Joel Piroe.
Robinson notes that the 26-year-old has only made three first-team appearances for Serie A outfit Atalanta, making him relatively inexperienced at the highest level. Leeds will be keeping an eye on a possible Premier League squad for the upcoming year.
