Following Fulham’s loss, Ruud van Nistelrooy got into a furious argument with Leicester players, directing his ire at one player in particular.

Following Leicester’s home loss to Fulham, Ruud van Nistelrooy had a passionate argument with his team, with Facundo Buonanotte being one of the victims.

Ahead of a pivotal trip to Tottenham on Sunday, the Foxes had just lost seven straight games and were now in danger of suffering their second relegation in three seasons.

And there has unavoidably been friction behind the scenes as a result of the losing run. According to Mail Sport, Van Nistelrooy was particularly irritated at Buonanotte, and other players were reportedly shocked that the Brighton attacker, who was on loan, was singled out this time.

Despite being a vital member of the team under former manager Steve Cooper, Buonanotte has only started three of nine league games since Van Nistelrooy came over in November. The 19-year-old has been dissatisfied with his lack of playing time in recent weeks, and it’s even been rumored that Brighton has contemplated terminating the season-long loan deal.

Last Saturday, three minutes after Adama Traore had given Fulham a 2-0 lead, which ended up being the final score, Buonanotte replaced Jordan Ayew in the 71st minute.

When he came on, Buonanotte had trouble making an impression. Despite only touching the ball 16 times, he lost it nine times, according to Opta data. It’s important to note, though, that attacking players are more prone to give up control when they try riskier passes.

The temperature in the changing room was raised for the second time in as many games. According to Mail Sport, some senior players convened an inquest with the rest of the team after the 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace on January 15 in an attempt to inspire more resolve and determination to finish outside the bottom three.

Fans turned on the board and Van Nistelrooy after Leicester’s performance against Fulham was worse than Palace’s, suggesting that the warning was not taken seriously.

Leicester remained silent.
