A former Manchester United teammate of Ruud van Nistelrooy offers to assist the manager of Leicester City.

A former Manchester United teammate of Ruud van Nistelrooy has offered to assist the struggling Leicester City manager.

Van Nistelrooy has lost seven of his last eight games as the Foxes’ manager, and he has had a difficult start to life at King Power Stadium.

In an attempt to avoid relegation, Leicester, who currently sit 19th in the Premier League standings, may recruit up to five players this month.

Leicester’s backroom staff has also not altered much; the two new hires to date are Brian Barry-Murphy and Jelle ten Rouwelaar.

Perhaps that will change, though, and Van Nistelrooy will accept a teammate’s offer.

Jaap Stam offers to join Leicester City’s Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Van Nistelrooy has had the good fortune to play with some of the best players in the world during his playing career.

One of such is Jaap Stam, but the two only played together for a short time because Stam was controversially moved to Lazio in 2001, two months after his Dutch counterpart arrived.

They did play together for the Netherlands on the international scene though and the former defender, who has had management experience in the past with the likes of Reading, Feyenoord, Cincinnati and recently DOS Kampen, said that he would be happy to help the struggling Foxes boss out.

“Yes,” he said to Viaplay. I might be able to play a few balls after two weeks of training.

“I would absolutely do that if Ruud called.”

Leicester’s defensive problems might be resolved with Jaap Stam It’s easy to identify the team’s biggest concern this season.

Their defense is a far worse problem than their lack of goals in five of Van Nistelrooy’s nine games.

The only two teams in the league with poorer defenses are Southampton (50) and Wolves (51), as Leicester has given up 48 goals as of this writing.

When Stam played football, he was regarded as one of the game’s top defenders. He has the organizational abilities and positional knowledge to assist bring out the most in players like Wout Faes, who is still free to depart Leicester.

By no means would that be the worst idea at all.
