Glen Kamara Drawing Interest from Southampton, Ipswich, and Trabzonspor
Six months after Glen Kamara’s €10 million transfer from Leeds United to Stade Rennais, the Finnish midfielder could be on the move again. Despite the high expectations accompanying his arrival in France, Kamara’s tenure at Rennes has been underwhelming, and now clubs across Europe, including Southampton, Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough, and Trabzonspor, are reportedly vying for his signature.
According to L’Équipe, Premier League sides Southampton and Ipswich Town have expressed interest in the 29-year-old midfielder. While these clubs are monitoring Kamara closely, Championship outfit Middlesbrough and Turkish side Trabzonspor have taken a more active approach in pursuing the Finnish international. With Rennes nearing their loan quota, they are prioritizing a permanent transfer for Kamara rather than a temporary move.
Kamara’s struggles at Rennes have been apparent, with only 13 appearances to his name since joining the club last summer. His performance dipped further after the team’s shocking exit from the Coupe de France at the hands of Ligue 2 side ESTAC Troyes. Following the defeat, Kamara was one of several players omitted from Jorge Sampaoli’s training squad, signaling a lack of confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the squad’s ongoing campaign.
Rennes themselves are grappling with a challenging season, currently languishing in 14th place in Ligue 1 and precariously level on points with AS Saint-Étienne, who occupy the relegation playoff spot. To stabilize their position and reshape the team, Rennes appear eager to offload Kamara, allowing them to redirect resources toward reinforcements better suited to their current needs.
Kamara’s potential departure has sparked speculation about his next destination. While Southampton and Ipswich present an opportunity to re-establish himself in English football, Trabzonspor and Middlesbrough could offer different environments to reignite his career. Regardless of where he lands, Kamara will be looking for a fresh start to rediscover the form that once made him a standout talent.
