Conor Stone is seizing a golden opportunity to secure a permanent spot in the Greater Western Sydney Giants lineup after Harry Perryman’s recent transfer to Collingwood. The talented 22-year-old, who has faced numerous challenges since being drafted in 2020, is determined to prove his worth and cement his position within the team. His journey to this point has been marked by perseverance, particularly following an impressive season in the VFL that showcased his potential as a standout player.
Despite playing only 13 AFL games over four years due to persistent injuries, Stone’s resilience shone through in the VFL, earning him the club’s best-and-fairest award for the competition. However, he acknowledges that this recognition is bittersweet. “It probably means I’ve played too many VFL games,” Stone remarked, expressing his longing for a consistent presence in the AFL. His hunger for greater challenges and his refusal to settle for mediocrity have propelled him to prepare rigorously for the upcoming season.
Last season, Stone demonstrated his forward prowess during a brief recall in the AFL, stepping in after Callum Brown’s suspension. While his time on the field was limited, it highlighted his potential to contribute to the Giants’ success.
