Sheffield United is “close” to three transfer agreements as Chris Wilder compares Sunderland and Leeds United.

After manager Chris Wilder praised Sheffield United’s “relentless” efforts to bring new players to Bramall Lane, the team is “close” to making three signings as its January transfer market activity picks up speed. To strengthen his team’s bid for promotion, which was strengthened by their victory over Norwich City on Saturday afternoon at Bramall Lane, the Blades manager is looking to add five new players.

The Blades’ victory put them back atop the Championship table, but it may not last long as title contenders Leeds United have the opportunity to reclaim the top spot if they defeat United’s closest rivals Wednesday at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon. More alternatives are available to all of their fellow promotion contenders, and Sunderland is demonstrating ambition following the striking loan signing of Enzo Le Fee from Roma, although Burnley and Leeds have more potent teams.

However, that could alter before the window closes. The Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz, who watched Norwich’s victory from the directors’ box at Bramall Lane, and Leicester City forward Tom Cannon, who was the target of a United bid earlier this week that we understand has since been accepted, are both targets for the Blades.

Following Harry Souttar and Oliver Arblaster’s season-ending injuries, Wilder will then focus on adding players to his defense and midfield center. “We’re close,” Wilder stated after Harrison Burrows’ brace gave the team all three points against the Canaries. We’re near one [Brereton Diaz], who has been making the rounds today, and another pair.

“I anticipate signing each of the five new players we’re pursuing.” From a financial and personality standpoint, all of the top targets we’re speaking to want to join us for the hopefully successful final 19 games of the season, and we’re getting close to three. However, as we discussed on Friday, it’s not that simple.

“I’m thrilled with Stephen and the owners’ support in promoting our necessary actions. It is necessary. We are stretched, they have injuries, and we have injuries as well. We believe Jes [Rak-Sakyi] and Vini [Souza] will return on Tuesday, but I won’t bet on it.

“The registration deadline is 12 p.m. on Monday for Tuesday [when the Blades travel to Swansea City] and 12 p.m. on Thursday for Friday [at home to Hull City], so it’s going to be challenging.” However, the recruitment staff, Stephen [Bettis, CEO], and I will continue to work tirelessly to help the lads. I told them to make no excuses before the game.

“We’re bringing in players to assist this group after losing a couple of players, Kieffer Moore and Brooksy [Andre Brooks], who weren’t well enough to participate. Not to replace anyone, but to improve us. Because we should be aware of the depth and strength of the teams in our immediate vicinity. That will be necessary. We will be physically tested during the final 20 games, so we need those choices and answers to the small problems that are preventing us from winning.
