Kyogo Furuhashi has been invited to rejoin the Japan national squad after missing out on more recent international call-ups.
Japanese media outlets are optimistic that Hajime Moriyasu, a Celtic forward, can bring his skills from the Scottish Premiership and Champions League to the international arena when his team plays Indonesia in a World Cup qualifying match later today (Friday, 12 p.m. kickoff time UK).
The choice to reintegrate Furuhashi into the squad is a calculated move to increase Japan’s attacking options, according to Japan News (translated via Google). He has a significant advantage due to his expertise competing in European events.
Due to his call-up, Kyogo will be traveling with fellow countrymen and teammates Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda. Kyogo has so far this season scored six goals and provided three assists for his Celtic teammates in 16 games across all competitions. In light of this, Asahi stated: “Furuhashi’s recall to the national squad has been greatly aided by his steady goal-scoring prowess at Celtic. “His agility and precision in front of goal are assets that Japan aims to leverage in the [World Cup] qualifiers.”
