David Moyes’s ally provides an update on Wolves’ next manager

After a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil is under increasing pressure to step down, and David Moyes is expected to take over. Mick Brown, a former West Ham scout who worked closely with Moyes at the London Stadium, told Football Insider in an exclusive interview that the 61-year-old would be “perfect” for the position given their recent problems.

After ten games, Wolves are now at the bottom of the Premier League standings, having lost seven of their previous seven games and drawn three. Although the results haven’t been reflected in their performances at Molineux, they have now conceded 27 league goals due to their lack of defensive coherence and structure.

The pressure on the manager’s job has increased since O’Neil’s team gave up two goals or more in eight straight games after the draw with Palace. If Moyes is selected to succeed the current manager, he has been endorsed to eliminate all of their defensive shortcomings, particularly their inability to handle set pieces.

David Moyes tipped to replace Gary O’Neil after Wolves sack decision

Pressure on O’Neil’s position continues to grow with each passing week, although a favourable run of fixtures up next could serve to save his job.

Brown, who remains very well-connected in the game and has a wealth of experience at the top level, insisted that Moyes is “very much under consideration” for the role, but O’Neil must win games soon if he wants to keep his position.

“O’Neil needs to start winning games soon,” he told Football Insider.

“But I would think David Moyes would be very much under consideration if they choose to sack him.

“Over a period of time now, I’ve seen Wolves play some decent football, but they keep losing.

“And the reason they keep losing is because they keep making defensive errors.

“Now, if the board can see that like everybody else can, they’ll get a manager in who can immediately look to remedy those issues, and Moysey would be perfect for that.

“You never know with owners, though, because these days they want to play more attractive football, often at the expense of results.

“I strongly believe Moyes should be in the game and still has a lot to offer.

If Gary O’Neil does get sacked, and you’d think he would if results keep going the way they do, Moyes has to be the one to take over
