As Celtic supporters witnessed Brendan Rodgers’ men defeat a resolute Dundee club tonight, it truly was a game of two halves. Celtic defeated Dundee to maintain their league-leading position, slightly behind Aberdeen, who defeated Rangers at Pittodrie, with to goals from Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels.
Dundee miraculously held on and went into the interval level despite Celtic squandering chance after chance in the first forty-five torturous minutes. But Celtic’s bench strength ultimately proved too strong for Dundee, as Brendan Rodgers made three swift changes in the second half as Celtic won 2-0. But as Celtic supporters celebrated their victory at Celtic Park, these are a few things they might have missed.
Luis Palma’s Celtic frustrations against Dundee are still going strong. Luis Palma hasn’t had the best season for Celtic yet, and his performance against Dundee doesn’t seem to be improving. The Honduran put in a lot of effort and was obviously eager to make an impression, but it frequently appeared as though he was making too much of an effort to earn a spot in the Celtic starting lineup. Palma’s poor passing, careless touches, and misdirected shots exposed him to abuse from the Parkhead crowd, who are obviously growing impatient with the international winger.
With just one shot on goal and insufficient ammo for Kyogo Furuhashi, Palma’s tenure at the club appears to be coming to an end.
Paulo Bernardo is growing in the McGregor role and Arne Engels’ unseen Celtic frustration vs Dundee
Paulo Bernardo was once again deployed in the Callum McGregor role as the Celtic captain recovers from his current injury.
The Portuguese midfielder looked calm, assured and more confident playing the deeper position and did well breaking up some of Dundee’s passages of play to help Celtic win back possession.
Bernardo had flashes of attacking intent and was unlucky not to score after his 20-yard curling effort flew just wide of Dundee’s right-hand post in the second half.
Arne Engels of Celtic scores his team’s second goal from the penalty spot during the William Hill Premiership match between Celtic FC and Dundee FC…
Arne Engels made a comeback to the Celtic starting lineup and occasionally shown his skill during the game. As the Dundee keeper thwarted the Hoops attack in the second half, his enthusiasm for the Celtic cause was evident. Although Jamie McCracken was playing well, he fought tirelessly to break the deadlock when Engels nodded back into the box for Kyogo to blast over after he made a point blank save. The Belgian then embraced the goal stantion with intense anguish. Engels, who is obviously giving the Celtic team his all despite some unjustified criticism over the past seven days, put on a fantastic display of commitment.
