An interesting update on Jose Sa is provided by Liam Keen and Nathan Judah prior to Wolves’ match against Brighton.

Gary O’Neil’s teamsheet for this weekend’s match against Brighton will be the focus of many Wolves supporters. Jose Sa kept his team in the game till the very end with a fantastic effort against Manchester City last weekend.

Unfortunately, Wolves were just short. However, Sa was the reason Wanderers got as close as they did. After Sam Johnstone was sidelined due to an injury, Sa returned to goal. Dan Bentley replaced the summer acquisition on the bench, and he was not included in the matchday squad. Johnstone appears to be in position to play against Brighton this weekend after training at Wolves this week following his injury.

Journalist Liam Keen has made some interesting remarks about the Sa-Johnstone situation ahead of the clash.

Jose Sa could keep his place for Wolves against Brighton

After such a strong performance against City, many Wolves supporters have been outspoken about Sa maintaining his spot against Brighton. Gary O’Neil made some ambiguous remarks on Sa following the loss to City, implying that the Wolves boss plans to play Johnstone again against Brighton.

He brushed off the idea of having a selection dilemma for the upcoming match because of Sa and Johnstone. Given how brilliantly Sa had performed versus City, some people thought O’Neil’s tone was “disrespectful.” Speaking on the most recent episode of the E&S podcast, journalist Liam Keen hinted that Sa might really be in line to retain his position after all. Keen stated: “I hope that, from what I understand, fans will receive some positive news.” Many fans want Sa to remain in his position, which is why I say this.

It looks more likely to me at this stage on Thursday afternoon, provided all goes well by 3pm on Saturday that Jose Sa will be lined up again.

I currently believe that Jose Sa will likely maintain his position. He has taken a risk. Assuming, as we understand it, that he actually begin performing on the weekend and keeps going, he should be fine if he doesn’t suffer a complete breakdown. Everything is different once more.

Judah added: “Look, you said it’s not 100% certain that Sa is in goal for Brighton – it’s not – but the way it looks at this moment in time, he will be and I think he should be.

“I think O’Neil will be coy on the situation and keep at least the media and some people guessing going into the game. But as far as we understand it at this moment in time, Jose Sa will be in goal against Brighton.

Jose Sa starting at Brighton will delight many Wolves fans

This news will be welcomed by a lot of people.

If it comes to pass that Sa starts against Brighton, then many will feel it is the right decision, and no less than the Portuguese stopper deserves.

After Johnstone signed, O’Neil finally mentioned having fierce competition in the goalkeeping position. After Sa’s performance against City, it would be quite illogical for him to not start him against Brighton. It may also come across as somewhat hypocritical. You can’t dismiss someone who has reached their breaking point while still talking about having fierce competition. It is hoped that Sa will start and perform at the same level as he did against City at Molineux.
