After Man City’s 2-1 loss at Molineux, manager Pep Guardiola issues a fresh assessment on Wolves.

Despite Wolves’ narrow defeat at the hands of Premier League winners Manchester City on Sunday, Gary O’Neil’s team has impressed Pep Guardiola this season. Wolves came very close to earning a point at Molineux, but fell 2-1.

Wolves had the ideal start thanks to a fantastic cross from Nelson Semedo, which was scored seven minutes later by Jorgen Strand Larsen. Then, however, Josko Gvardiol equalized with a spectacular strike that Jose Sa was unable to stop. The majority of the second half was therefore spent by City attacking Wolves, with Wolves sporadically posing a danger on the counter.

John Stones ultimately scored for City in a contentious manner, heading into a corner just before the end. Bernardo Silva had been in front of Sa when it was first disallowed for offside. When Stones headed in, Silva was judged not to be interfering, and the goal had the potential to crush Wolves’ hearts. Following Sunday’s thrilling match, City boss Pep Guardiola discussed Wolves today.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola praises ‘quality’ Wolves

Ahead of his team’s Champions League League Phase matchup against Sparta Prague, Guardiola has been interacting with reporters today. The Spaniard was talking about how his team celebrated their victory over Wolves in the closing moments. He then seemed to imply that the recognition of defeating a very good side was one of the factors contributing to the raucous celebrations.

“I have a great deal of respect for Wolves’ quality, and I like the way Man City celebrates winning,” he remarked.

I know what they have done against Liverpool and Chelsea for example, how good they play, and they were not able to do it against us what they have done. I know what I am talking about because I saw the games.”

Wolves played well against Man City

It is a tough moment right now for Wolves, but it’s clear Guardiola genuinely respects the club.

He has often acknowledged that Wolves have given his side difficulty in games and of course, there have been some big wins over City in the last few years.

It was not to be on Sunday, but there were plenty of positives for Gary O’Neil to take from Wolves’ performance.

The majority of players appeared to be much more at ease in the back three, therefore the change was successful. According to former Wolves defender Andy Thompson, Semedo looked “totally different” in a positive sense while playing as a wing-back, while Toti Gomes and a few others were much more confident. Wolves will undoubtedly win their first game soon if they can continue to produce performances of this caliber. It is evident that the players are still fighting for O’Neil, who has the support of the Wolves board. Hopefully, the change that everyone is hoping for is about to happen.
