Wolves fans have been enthralled with Andre’s play ever since he arrived from Fluminense on the day of the transfer deadline. As Wolves’ penultimate summer acquisition, the star inked a £21 million contract.
The fact that Wolves were able to sign him was somewhat unexpected because Liverpool and other major teams have been keeping an eye on him lately. Perhaps Wolves didn’t really need to sign him because they already had a good center back.
However, the celebrity has clearly shown himself to be a class act thus far, and in September, he was named the team’s Player of the Month. Andre has played with the Brazil team in their matches against Chile and Peru during the international break.
Last night, Andre started on the bench for Brazil which will have been a relief for Gary O’Neil – but he did come on in the second-half for a cameo.
Andre doesn’t waste a single pass in cameo for Brazil against Peru If there is one thing Andre’s supporters have learned about him thus far, it is that he is incredibly neat with the ball.
The 23-year-old is an expert at holding onto the ball and hardly ever lets it go.Andre made his debut in full against Newcastle United, completing all 40 passes attempted. In a Premier League game, no rookie has ever made that many with perfect precision. Since then, Andre’s death has continued to be held to a very high degree.
With a pass completion percentage of 95.8% thus far in 2024–25, Andre leads the Premier League. For Brazil last night, Andre replaced injured Bruno Guimaraes, who had taken his position in the starting XI, for the last fifteen minutes or so.
It was a typically tidy performance from Andre, who did not waste a single pass during his time on the pitch – completing 15/15 for 100% accuracy (via Sofascore).
Admittedly, it was a relatively easy game for Andre to come on in, with Brazil already 4-0 up and cruising. But it was still a controlled performance from the Wolves man.
A decent international break for Andre
Andre has played for just under an hour across the two games over the international break for Brazil, which O’Neil will be fairly pleased about.
Andre has already established himself as a key player for Wolves, so O’Neil needs him back in the best condition possible.
Because of the travel, he might return somewhat jaded. Luckily, Wolves’ match against Manchester City is scheduled for Sunday, and having an extra day will be crucial. It will be interesting to watch whether Andre makes a play.
Given his performance in the first few games after signing, O’Neil will undoubtedly be very reluctant to bench him, even if he isn’t at full strength. Andre will play a major role this season and is perhaps Wolves’ finest acquisition prior to 2024–2025.
