During his career with the team, Charlie Mulgrew has shared the field with some of the greatest players who have ever worn a Celtic jersey. During his five years at Celtic, Mulgrew shared the field alongside players like Ki Sung Yeung, Victor Wanyama, and Virgil van Dijk.
However, Mulgrew feels that because of his on-field character, one Celtic legend of that era never received the recognition he deserved for his skill as a football player.
Scott Brown’s Celtic persona didn’t do him justice
Scott Brown is and always will be a legend at Celtic. Captaining the clun to a Quadruple Treble, nine in a row and an Invincibles Treblt, Broony was known mostly as a warrior on the pitch.
But Mulgrew said that that was all just an act and that he thrived on that persona and proving those in the Scottish media wrong about him.
Mulgrew said to Under the Cosh, “Well, but the truth is, he’s not really that kind of person. He is a whole other person off the field. That’s simply how he prepares for the game, sets himself up for success, and brings out the best in him. However, in real life, he or she is laid back, friendly, and never hostile.
Mulgrew went on to say of the media attention around Joey Barton’s signing with the Rangers, “They made a massive deal.” As usual, they made a big deal out of it here. Browny feeds off of the things. That’s his game, then, when there’s uncertainty or a challenge of that like.
Underrated Scott Brown was ‘unreal’ at Celtic
Mulgrew is of the firm belief that Brown was not just a midfield enforcer but also an unreal footballer who should have got more credit for his ability and could have ‘easily’ played in the English Premier League.
Mulgrew said, “He was very good. He used to talk himself down and he never got the credit for his football abilities.
“His football skills were unbelievable. He was a potential English Premier League player. “I don’t know, but I think he might have had the opportunity to move to England.” You must inquire about him. “Well, I believe he was happy at Celtic, but I’m not sure what the plan was when he got the chance to go to Newcastle.”
He had a great time playing for Celtic. Since the English Premiership is fantastic, playing for Celtic is a tough choice. However, because Celtic is such a large club and hosts the Champions League, I assume that many individuals find it difficult to choose.
Brown continues to talk about Celtic with such fervor, and it’s evident that both the supporters and his peers still think highly of him. Brown is currently Ayr’s manager and is settling in as he looks to lead the south coast team back to the Scottish Premiership. And sooner rather than later, we should see Broony back in Scotland’s top division if his coaching skills are as strong as his footballing prowess.
