A serious injury blow to Wolves ahead of Liverpool as a concern with Gary O’Neill surface

When Liverpool plays Wolves on Saturday, they aim to win two straight Premier League games.A blow has been inflicted on Wolves’ defense ahead of Saturday’s visit from Liverpool. Yerson Mosquera sustained a major knee injury and is likely to miss the remainder of the season.

In the closing minutes of a 3-1 loss on the road against their local rivals, Aston Villa, the 23-year-old was being carried off. After getting scans to assess the extent of the injury, the Colombian international needed surgery after Morgan Rogers caught him and caused his knee to twist.

Liverpool hopes to build on their impressive season opening performance as they visit the West Midlands on Saturday. With just one point, Wolves sit at the bottom of the Premier League standings, reflecting a challenging season under Gary O’Neil.

Wolves have little options at the back, as Mosquera exacerbates the situation following Toti Gomes’ thigh injury and the arrival of rookie Bastien Meupiyou.

Wolves confirmed in a statement: “Yerson has now had all of the various assessments and scans, which unfortunately confirm injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

“We will be visiting specialists in the coming days to finalise the plan for surgery; this will take place in the next two weeks.

“Clearly there is a long recovery period ahead for Yerson, and the club will be providing all the support he needs to ensure a successful rehabilitation and a return to competition in due course. Timescales are difficult to state prior to surgery, but it is highly unlikely he will feature again this season.”
