Why Dedryck Boyata is not expected to play for Club Brugge again at Celtic Park

Before leaving for Hertha Berlin in the summer of 2019, Dedryck Boyata played a crucial role in Brendan Rodgers’ first stint at Celtic Park. With 135 games, 15 goals, and 9 assists for the Bhoys, the former Belgium international was a mainstay in center defense.

After deciding to come to Glasgow in 2015, he rejected offers from La Liga team Real Sociedad, which David Moyes managed at the time, and went on to win eight titles at Celtic. Boyata captained Hertha Berlin after leaving Scotland, and in 2022 he joined Club Brugge.

In all competitions, he has made 26 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League team. Despite the possibility of a Champions League reunion, rumors state that the 33-year-old is not expected to play when Celtic and Club Brugge play in late November.

Why Dedryck Boyata is unlikely to complete Celtic Park return

Per Gazet van Antwerpen, Boyata has been training with Club Brugge’s academy wing Club NXT and has no prospect of earning minutes under Nicky Hayen.

Having yet to make a competitive appearance this term, the ex-Belgium man was deemed surplus to requirements in the summer, but no clubs came forward with a suitable offer to entice him away from Jan Breydel Stadium.

With less than a year left on his deal, it appears that Boyata’s time in Bruges is only headed in one direction. He is unlikely to feature for them again despite being on a considerable salary.

It’s interesting to note that the outlet claims he doesn’t even exist in the first team locker room, so it’s safe to assume he won’t play a major role when Club Brugge visits Glasgow in November.

Boyata was a respected member of the team and contributed to some of their most notable recent victories, despite his disappointing departure from Celtic. History would be kind to him, and he would be warmly received back. However, his exile under Hayen makes any chance of a reunion improbable.
