After leading the team on Wednesday night, Tommy Doyle has now given a message to Wolves following their elimination from the Carabao Cup by Brighton.
Wolves lost 3-2 at the Amex Stadium to Newcastle United in the Premier League last Saturday, failing to recover from the setback.
Despite a terrible first half performance, Goncalo Guedes’ goal shortly before halftime gave Wolves hope. Guedes and Rodrigo Gomes, both had excellent opportunities for Wanderers to tie the score. However, Brighton’s late goal through Ferdi Kadioglu left Wolves with too much to do.
Tommy Doyle grabbed a late consolation for the visitors, and he has now sent a message to fans after last night’s result.
Tommy Doyle thanks Wolves fans for travelling to Brighton as he sends defiant message
Wolves did not humiliate themselves at the Amex in the end. The guys gave a fairly bad first half effort, but they improved in the second and ought to have been back on par.
But it was still a poor defeat overall, and frustrating for those who made the long trip down to the south coast. Had Wolves turned in a similar second-half display to their first, there would have been fury today.
One man who actually gave a good account of himself last night was Doyle, who was the captain of the side with Mario Lemina on the bench.
Fans praised the Englishman for his display, with many feeling he was the standout for Wolves amid a poor collective performance.
Those fans will no doubt appreciate Doyle’s message on social media today then, as he acknowledged those who went to the game.
He sent the 15-word message: “Thank you to everyone that travelled last night. Sticking together & refocusing for the weekend.”
Particularly for those who traveled to the Amex, supporters are miffed over the most recent loss to Brighton.
Following the game last night, the majority of people that were featured have not said anything. However, Doyle did a nice thing by at least acknowledging those that left, and this kind of behavior is probably now expected of him.
He understands it, and being the captain last night showed that he is obviously a leader as well. Doyle should play more for Wolves, but players like Lemina, Joao Gomes, and Andre are fierce competitors.
He is most likely the team’s unluckiest player overall in that regard. Although it wouldn’t be shocking to see O’Neil go for a more athletic and dynamic midfield in an attempt to contain the home team, it would be fantastic to see him take on Villa.
