How Rangers supporters may obtain the exclusive Fortuna Sittard Fernando Ricksen uniform
Fernando Ricksen is a club legend who will always be remembered, and not just with the Rangers. In September 2019, the former captain of the Gers tragically lost his valiant fight against Motor Neurone Disease, and Ibrox turned Oranje in tribute. However, Fernando Ricksen is still revered as a hero in his native Netherlands by the Fortuna Sittard club, where his career started and finished. In honor of the renowned former Netherlands international, the Eredivisie team has now unveiled a commemorative kit on the fifth anniversary of Ricksen’s demise. As Fernando Ricksen would have desired, Rangers are also essential to the whole affair.
In memory of the Dutchman, Fortuna Sittard has created a unique blue third kit, five years after the tragic death of Ricksen in September 2019. A few more well-known faces may be seen in an emotive advertising video featuring the uniform in Ibrox Stadium and the renowned changing room of the team. The new Fernando Ricksen “Never Give Up” shirt has finally been released. Michael Mols, Ronald de Boer, and Arthur Numan—all former Rangers teammates—are involved.
The fashionable red cuffs and blue uniform are reminiscent of a Rangers jersey, with vertical stripes that gradually fade as they progress up the shirt. 10% of each shirt purchased will benefit the ALS Foundation. The top features the phrase “NEVER GIVE UP F2” printed on the back of the neck. In an additional nod to their former star, Fortuna Sittard will don the jersey when they play Ajax in the Amsterdam Arena later tonight.
