Connor Goldson was divested of his Rangers attire as a result of a severe cultural shock from Cyprus.
After performing to 50,000 sold-out crowds at Ibrox, Connor Goldson is finding life in Cyprus “easy.” Now, he is playing to a mere 1,000 people. Aleksey Shpilevsky, the manager of Aris Limassol, claims that the defender has experienced cultural shock. After six years and 309 games with the Rangers, Goldson left the team in the summer to play for Aris Limassol. Since then, he has had success, leading his new team to three straight victories to begin the season. Despite playing with ten men for more than an hour, they defeated Omonia Aradippou 3-0 on the road over the weekend. Not too long ago, in the Europa League of the previous season, Goldson was running out AGAINST Aris at a packed Ibrox. But his new surroundings are drastically different – just 1,000 fans were in attendance at their victory on Sunday. And his manager admits adjusting to the change has been a struggle for the 31-year-old.
Playing in a stadium that is nearly empty is difficult, according to Shpilevsky. When Connor Goldson was a member of the Rangers, he was accustomed to playing in front of 50,000 spectators every other week. He finds it difficult to adapt to this, therefore. However, I’m glad I won and I appreciate the support from those who did attend.”
