Ally McCoist backs Dave King to get Rangers out of a ‘state’ but they cannot agree over Ibrox investment

Positive Though the Ibrox icon worries the team he loves is in a “state” following John Bennett’s departure, Ally McCoist thinks Dave King is the guy to help Rangers turn things around. The 60-year-old said good-bye to the outgoing chairman and believes King meets the necessary requirements to give the Ibrox side a boost. After Bennett’s departure, the former chairman, who oversaw operations from 2015 to 2020, has been vocal in recent months and announced his ambition to return. King is suggesting that he head the Rangers for the first two years of their long-term strategy because he is certain that they need new leadership with that kind of vision. McCoist supported the businessman who is headquartered in South Africa and isn’t against it.

Following King’s significant announcement, McCoist stated on talkSPORT: “We need to take action. First, let me endorse the sentiments expressed and wish John Bennett a speedy recovery from his illness. We must. The most crucial thing is that he is a good man. We don’t now have a chairman since James Bisgrove, our former chief executive, left for Saudi Arabia. The club is currently in a state of flux.”

However, King and McCoist disagree on the topic of outside investment. Although the former chairman of the Rangers is completely certain that wealthy supporters would embrace his push to return, McCoist still harbors some doubts about the willingness of wealthy backers to invest in the Ibrox club. “Dave King has been in before,” he continued, grabbing the club by the scruff of the neck, shaking it, and turning it around. Can he do it once more, though? He’s arguably our greatest choice right now, in my opinion. There won’t be any Arab Sheikh visiting us; that much is certain. The wisest course of action, in my opinion, would be to choose another, He has been there before and had success. It would be a gamble, no matter who comes in, but I think someone like Dave King, who has had a proven track record, would be good.”
