Michelle Alozie of the Houston Dash has agreed to a two-year contract extension.

Forward Michelle Alozie and the Houston Dash have reached an agreement on a new two-year contract that will start on January 1, 2025. The NWSL and the NWSL Players Association recently reached a new collective bargaining agreement, which led to the signing of contract extensions for four players, including the forward. “We are delighted that Michelle decided to re-sign with the Dash, as she has embraced so much of what makes Houston unique.” The president of the Houston Dash, Jessica O’Neill, stated, “Her impact on the field is well documented, and we look forward to her continued development for both club and country.” “We are especially pleased with Michelle’s accomplishments off the field and her community service. Her contributions to cancer research are outstanding and highlights the vast interests our players bring to the team.”

Alozie signed a deal with the Dash later that season after joining as a backup player for the national team in 2021. The Nigerian international will now play in Houston through the 2026 season after agreeing to a two-year contract extension through the 2024 campaign. There is a mutual option in the new two-year deal for the 2027 NWSL regular season. Houston will always have a particular place in my heart since it was here that I started my professional career and was given so many chances to develop both on and off the field, according to Alozie. “I’m excited about the organization’s future and want to help this team succeed. I am excited to be a member of this team for many years to come, and I am aware of the work that lies ahead.

Since 2021, the forward has made 54 appearances for the Dash in all competitions. During her time in Houston, Alozie has also participated in team games as a forward and defender on both ends of the field. Across all competitions, she has contributed two assists and six goals to the Dash. At the international level, Alozie scored her first goal for the Super Falcons against Portugal at Shell Energy Stadium that summer and was awarded her maiden senior cap for the Nigerian National Team in Houston in June 2021. She recently represented the Dash in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and helped Nigeria qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. That was the first appearance at the Olympic Games for the Super Falcons since the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The 27-year-old graduated from Yale University with a degree in molecular biology and spent one season at the University of Tennessee. She scored 19 goals and finished with 13 assists across three seasons for Yale. She earned Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors and first-team All-Conference recognition at Yale. She finished with three goals in 17 appearances for the Lady Vols in her final season at the collegiate level.
