Rangers star in blunt Celtic ‘most brutal derby’ admission as £7m ace explains why he wanted Ibrox transfer

The Czech winger acknowledged his team was “outclassed” in every area despite making his Old Firm debut at Celtic Park. Rangers were “outclassed in everything” by Celtic in their 3-0 Old Firm thumping at Parkhead last Saturday, according to Vaclav Cerny, despite manager Philippe Clement’s denials that the two teams are fundamentally different. The Wolfsburg winger, who is now on loan, admitted that the Hoops dominated the entire ninety minutes despite having little effect on his derby debut at Glasgow’s east end. The Czech international, who is getting ready for his nation’s Nations League doubleheader against Georgia and Ukraine, said he wasn’t unhappy with the result.
Cerny also confessed he was taken aback by the passion and feisty nature of the fixture, describing it as “more brutal” than the Prague rivalry he grew up watching as a kid.

Cerny said, “We didn’t do well at all; they outclassed us in everything.” Our primary objective is to capture them at whatever cost. Such a competition hasn’t existed for a very long time. Naturally, I never participated in their derby on behalf of Sparta Prague or Slavia Prague. But it’s far bigger and more violent than our major derby.

Despite the defeat to Celtic, Cerny admits has enjoyed his start to life in Glasgow and is looking forward to testing himself against the likes of big guns Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League over the coming months. He added: “I am happy there at Rangers so far.

“I am playing in Europe which I wouldn’t have got at Wolfsburg. And my own personal situation on the pitch is good too which is what I wanted. We were disappointed to go out of the Champions League because it was hugely affected by the meaningless red card we got. It was a shame we lost it in such a way. At least we were able to go straight to the Europa League after that.

“It’s a fantastic draw. Of course, playing against the big names excites me the most, but I’m also excited about the atmosphere at home games. It will be a wonderful encounter. Though I wouldn’t say it was inevitable, I did want to leave Wolfsburg. And I’m happy that I was able to have rapid negotiations with a team like the Rangers. It seemed like the right decision to me. I am asked a lot of questions concerning the Scottish League, and my answer is that I don’t think it differs all that much from other elite European competitions. There are undoubtedly higher caliber clubs and lower caliber clubs. At the very least, all four of Scotland’s top teams play excellent football. Right now, I want to be involved in the national team.
