Cowboys owner Jerry Jones slams door shut on Dak Prescott contract talk

Jerry Jones seems ready to move on, having spent the whole summer discussing contract extensions. As his Dallas Cowboys prepare for their Week 1 matchup with the Cleveland Browns, Jones answered inquiries about Dak Prescott’s contract situation. Next in line for the 2023 NFL MVP has no security beyond this season going into the season, and it doesn’t seem like that will change anytime soon. At the very least, Jones will not discuss it with the media.

Dallas has not extended head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract, and Prescott is about to reach the last year of his agreement. Jones also adopted a strict stance in dealing with his circumstances, but he did give some credit by expressing his satisfaction with the task they had completed.

It’s safe to say Jones is not overly delighted with his team’s lack of playoff success, despite his happiness with the work they’ve done during the regular season. He thinks that one driving force might be the urgency brought on by job insecurity. It might also backfire on him, particularly in Prescott’s instance. Because of a condition in his current contract, Prescott, who is already set to become the highest-paid player in the NFL, cannot be traded this offseason. That might spark a bidding war so fierce that Jones wishes he had spoken up more before the season.
