Rangers takeover: Stefan Borson gives thumbs-up for ‘£150m’ deal

Potential buyers of Rangers shares should use “extreme caution” in light of a recent takeover report. According to financial expert Stefan Borson, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider, the Ibrox club’s valuation is “so dependent on Europe,” and the Scottish Premiership’s qualification procedure is vulnerable to frequent changes. American investors who value Rangers at approximately £150 million are showing interest in buying the team, according to City AM (August 27, 2018). There are rumors that certain current Ibrox shareholders are considering selling.

Although a 51% takeover attempt by American company KRF Capital failed last year (2023), other US investors are thinking about becoming involved in Scottish football. In the past 13 seasons, Rangers has only won the Scottish title once, with Celtic now holding a commanding lead.

Rangers takeover suitors should be ‘very cautious’, says Borson
Borson claimed he “wouldn’t be buying” a stake in the Gers as putting a number on the club’s value is “not straightforward”.

He told Football Insider: “It’s really hard to value Scottish clubs.

Purchasing a Scottish team would need extreme caution on my part. “Europe is crucial to the situation, and it’s unclear how that will develop. Rangers have been exchanged in the past and do have some worth. However, appraising it is not simple. There aren’t many such deals that could offer you some indication of their valuation.

“It’s not like the Premier League or other European sides.
“There is only one comparable club in Scotland, and that’s Celtic.
“We know all the other Scottish clubs are smaller.

“If £150 million was about right for a full takeover, I wouldn’t be buying it, but that wouldn’t surprise me.”
