Speaking about his catch-up with Rangers manager Philippe Clement prior to the Celtic match last weekend, Arne Engels veered off topic to say that the Hoops supporters really impressed him. The new player at Parkhead made his debut in the competitive setting off the bench as his team easily won 3-0. The supporters showed their happiness by cheering and making noise as they easily defeated their former opponents in the first meeting of the composed new player, who signed a record for £11 million. Before the game began, Engels spoke with his former coach, Clement, about remarks from the Belgian during their time together at Club Brugge, in which Clement expressed his wish to never face the 20-year-old as a rival.

However, the athlete sidestepped the lighthearted inquiry on Clement’s desire to be on the Light Blues’ bench. He answered, “I don’t know,” but “I think so.” I’m not the person to say. I am incredibly thrilled to be a Celtics player now.” Speaking about the punters, Engels insisted that he had never seen anything like it. “It’s different (to playing for Augsburg), competing for trophies at a top-table club,” he continued. The Champions League’s new format allowed me to demonstrate my abilities at the greatest level and made that decision very pleasant. “The crowd are fantastic; the match versus the Rangers was amazing, based on my observations. Observing the kind of support the supporters show for the team was really beautiful to experience.
