Chukwu Annabelle, another young Nigerian female baller in Colombia, on a mission for Canada
Annabelle Chukwu relocated to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 2016 after being born in England. After being invited to try out for the squad after being spotted playing in a school soccer game, she started playing youth soccer with Ottawa South United in 2017. She assisted OSU in winning the U-14 Girls OPDL Gary Miller Charity Shield in 2021. She enrolled in the NDC Ontario program in August of 2022. She started playing League 1 Ontario with NDC Ontario in 2023. Chukwu scored her first five goals in the league on July 16, 2023, as the team defeated ProStars FC 10–1. Chukwu was reared in Canada after being born in England to a Nigerian father.
She was selected for the 2022 CONCACAF Girls’ U-15 Championship team representing Canada at the U-15 level. On August 1, she scored in a 5-0 triumph over Jamaica in her first game. She was given credit for an assist on a goal by her twin sister Isabelle in the following game against Puerto Rico. Later, she was selected for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup as a member of the Canada U17 squad. On October 12, she made her debut as a substitute against France U17. She scored her first goal to assist the team achieve a 1-1 draw. Then, in November 2022, at the age of 15, she received her first call-up to the Canadian senior team for a friendly match against Brazil.
She was selected for the 2023 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship team representing Canada U20 in 2023. In the bronze medal match, she scored twice in overtime to help Canada defeat Costa Rica U20 5-3, take home the bronze, and secure a spot in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. After Deanne Rose was injured in September, she was called up to the senior team once more for the CONCACAF Olympic qualification playoffs. Isabelle Chukwu, Chukwu’s twin sister, is a player for the Canadian young national team.
