According to Paul Merson, the Liverpool player who is abroad on international service is “up there” with Kevin De Bruyne.

Although Manchester City and Liverpool are now bitter rivals in the Premier League, Paul Merson believes that there are some striking similarities between the players on both teams.

After a few years of Manchester City domination, Arne Slot will be focused on returning Liverpool to the Premier League champion status that their supporters believe they deserve.

A major contributor to the Manchester club’s domination has been Kevin De Bruyne, who scored six goals and provided eighteen assists in just 26 games the previous season following his injury return.

The Reds’ primary attackers this season have been Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, who together have scored more goals than the majority of Premier League sides have at this point. Curiously, it has been reported that Salah’s circumstances are already widely known, and Diaz may receive a new contract offer from the team.

But there’s another Liverpool player who has been drawing attention lately.

A Liverpool player, according to Paul Merson, is “up there” with Kevin De Bruyne. The majority of the Liverpool team left for international duty as the team prepared for a week of Nations League matches and qualification tournaments. Trent Alexander-Arnold is one player who is included in the England team.

Paul Merson appeared on Sky Sports as a guest to speak about the make up of the England squad and some of the players involved, and he had some rather big compliments to pay the 25-year-old.

“I’ve always said this. I think he’s one of the best passers in the Premier League, I think he’s up there with your Kevin de Bruynes passing wise.

I think when he went and played in midfield you’re not gonna get that passing range, there’s six players in there, it’s compact, teams will sit 10 behind the ball, so Trent doesn’t get the ball.

If he plays at right-back for England like hopefully he will in the next lot of games, he will get so much of the ball. And if you give him time he can find anybody anywhere on the football pitch, his vision is second to none”.

Kevin De Bruyne is the quickest to ever reach 100 assists in the history of the Premier League and arguably one of the most creative players to ever grace the top-flight, so for any player to be compared to the Belgian is quite the compliment.

Liverpool must keep hold of Trent Alexander-Arnold

As Merson says, the 25-year-old is arguably one of the best passers in the world, let alone the Premier League. He still has his best years ahead of him and is starting to show the discipline that’s been missing from him personally in the defensive third in recent years for the Reds.

After being spotted with Jude Bellingham during the summer holiday period, you can’t blame Jamie Carragher for being worried that Liverpool could lose Trent to Real Madrid next year.

If Trent and the Reds decide to part ways, there will undoubtedly be a long list of possible suitors. Barcelona is also rumored to be one of Trent’s biggest fans.

Given the volume of potential suitors and the Englishman’s present income of £170k per week less than Salah, the decision ultimately comes down to personal choice and how much the player values himself.
