Adams out of Scotland squad as Barron called up

For Scotland’s Nations League matches against Poland and Portugal, forward Che Adams has withdrawn, but midfielder Connor Barron of Rangers has received his first call-up. James Forrest and Greg Taylor of the Celtics, along with goalie Robby McCrorie, accompany Adams in leaving Steve Clarke’s group. Josh Doig, a left-back for Barron and Sassuolo, has been promoted from the under-21 team to provide cover. Jon McCracken, a goalkeeper for Dundee, has already been called up to take McCrorie’s position. The 28-year-old Adams began all three of Scotland’s Euro 2024 group matches before joining Torino in Serie A, where he has made four appearances thus far and scored one goal. In his absence, Clarke’s alternatives for center forward include Lyndon Dykes, Tommy Conway, and Lawrence Shankland. Meanwhile, Barron relocated from Aberdeen.

Barron, meanwhile, moved from Aberdeen to Rangers and has started six of the Ibrox club’s seven games so far this season.

He and Doig could make their senior debuts as Scotland host Poland on Thursday night before a trip to Portugal on Sunday in Nations League A.
