Ian Crocker has slammed Rabbi Matondo after his weak header sparked a Celtic counterattack

Rabbi Matondo came under fire from Ian Crocker when his feeble header led to a Celtic counterattack, only minutes before Rangers missed a clear opportunity. Despite having the best of the first forty-five minutes, the home team’s Daizen Maeda goal gave them the lead, in keeping with their Old Firm style.

This occurred only a few minutes after Matondo lost a header at Parkhead and subsequently blew a fantastic opportunity to put the Light Blues ahead. Speaking on September 1 on Sky Sports Football, Crocker expressed dissatisfaction with the Wales international. “Matondo…that was awful from Matondo,” he exclaimed.

This proved to be expensive for Celtic as Maida scored a legitimate early goal before Kyogo Furuhashi’s strike was disallowed for offside. Fans’ displeasure was exacerbated by the fact that the Ibrox club had dominated the first part of the match. Rangers started the first half with a lot of optimism, but Clement’s team was unable to maintain that level of play until the Hoops had a 1-0 lead.

Matondo was partly to blame and his afternoon was over when he was subbed off for Ross McCausland due to an injury with 7 minutes of the half remaining.

The Belgian will certainly be disappointed to go in 2-0 down at half time, after Furuhashi doubled the home side’s lead, being behind in the Old Firm once again.
