Luke McCowan acknowledges having a “surreal feeling” in his first Celtics interview as a childhood fan.

Luke McCowan hasn’t stopped pinching himself since he met his childhood heroes in a flash of a day. The midfield player, who joined Brendan Rodgers’ team in the last moments of the transfer window, moved from Dens Park to Celtic Park Friday night.

After an incredible three years in Dundee, McCowan, a lifetime hoops enthusiast, will take some time to adjust to his dream move.

Wearing his new uniform, McCowan commented to Celtic TV: “It feels a little strange to be sitting here with the hoops on.” I’m not even sure how to express it. Simply said, I’ve been anxious to finish it as soon as I found out they were interested. I’m eager to start working and proving to the team that I’m a capable player who can contribute in the future.

I just made a few inquiries on the final day, so I didn’t really know much about what was going on. When the last day, hour, and minute arrived—I believe—it was finally finished. It’s been a pleasant voyage, but I couldn’t care less how it was completed.

After putting in many bids over the previous month for the gifted midfield player, Hibs was able to persuade Rodgers that Glasgow was where his future belonged after just one talk. “He just got my number and dropped me a lovely message asking if I could phone him,” McCowan stated.

When I called him, he welcomed me to the club and spoke nothing but kind things about me. After two minutes on the phone, I was prepared to sprint across the pitch at full speed in support of him.

I’m prepared to leave, so yes.” When asked if he believed that someone was at the wind-up, McCowan chuckled and said, “A little bit.” Nice individuals don’t exist who would harm you in that way. I was prepared to go as soon as I called to confirm that it wasn’t a wind-up.”

The new Bhoy has already received thousands of letters from Celtic supporters, but McCowan’s parents might be among the last to learn of his fairytale move. “My parents won’t find out until they get to Turkey, so my family is actually on a flight there,” he clarified.

They are incredibly proud, but I’m sad they couldn’t be here. My fiancé has also supported me throughout the entire process of getting here.

Coming to a club this huge and knowing you’re going to be a part of something truly amazing is something special. All I have to do is go out there and show the supporters what I’m made of and prove to them that I deserve to be here.”

In the middle of the park, McCowan has fierce competition from players like Callum McGregor, Paulo Bernardo, Reo Hatate, and £11 million man Arne Engels, who are all vying for spots. “I think that’s probably why Celtic have been amazing for the last number of years now, fighting for places” , he stated. “All I have to do is step in, prove that I can do that, and encourage boys who are already in my situation to better both themselves and me. I’m positive that during the first few days there, I’ll be like a sponge.”

Thrown into the deep end, as it were, McCowan expressed his vision of a baptism of fire against the Rangers on Sunday. I’ve been watching it since I was a child.

You are aware of the feelings it can evoke and what it means to each and every member of this group. If I’m a part of that, I’m confident I can contribute and have fun.”
