As he advances to the third round of the US Open, Serbian player Novak Djokovic is making history and solidifying his place in the pantheon of tennis greats.
This season at the US Open, Novak Djokovic has an enormous opportunity to make history as the Serbian is close to shattering multiple records.
The New York records that Novak Djokovic can shatter The Majors GOAT could end his tie with Margaret Court and take the lead with the most Grand Slam singles victories ever. Djokovic and Court have each won 24 Grand Slam singles titles, so Djokovic’s victory would end their tie and increase his total to 25. Djokovic, who now holds the record for the most male Grand Slam singles titles with 24, might surpass it with a record of 25.
He could equal the the record of Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer for the most US Open Men’s Singles event victories in the Open Era – Djokovic has won 4 times, while Connors, Sampras and Federer have each won 5 times
US Open match wins record in sight
Djokovic could come closer to breaking Jimmy Connors’ record for the most overall matches won in the Men’s Singles event at the US Open in the Open Era – Connors has won 98 times, Federer and Djokovic are now in a tied 2nd place with 89 matches won (+2 already during US Open 2024)
The modern icon could increase his record for the most Grand Slam matches won – he has won 376 Grand Slam matches (+2 matches won during US Open 2024 already), the most out of all tennis players
Djokovic could break Roger Federer’s record for the most Grand Slam match appearances in the Open Era, depending on how far he gets. Federer appeared in 429 matches and Djokovic has appeared in 426 matches thus far (+2 already in the 2024 US Open)
He could increase his record for the most finals appearances in the Men’s Singles event at the US Open in the Open Era – he has appeared in 10 finals and won 4 times – an appearance in the finals in 2024 would be a record-extending 11th appearance
Djokovic could break his own record from last year for the oldest player to win the Men’s Singles event at the US Open – in 2023, he was 36, and this year he would be 37 at the time of his victory
Bringing up the 100
He could join Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer and become one of only 3 players who have won 100 or more ATP-level titles – Connors won 109 ATP-level titles, Federer 103 and a victory at the US Open would be Djokovic’s 100th ATP-level title; by winning, Djokovic would also break his tie with Roger Federer for the most ATP-level titles won on hard court (currently 71, could be his 72nd victory on hard court)
Djokovic could become the first player in 16 years to win the Men’s Singles US Open event in consecutive years – the last male player to win consecutively was Roger Federer, who won for 5 years in a row between 2004 and 2008.
