Scotland’s top player will soon be among the most expensive in the country as a 52-cap player leaves to finalize the move.

Following agreement, Napoli will award the midfielder a long-term contract.

After reaching a personal terms agreement with the Italian team, Scott McTominay is anticipated to sign a long-term contract with Napoli later today.

On Sunday, Manchester United accepted a transfer bid from Napoli for the 27-year-old midfield player. Reports state that the Scotland international is scheduled to finalize his move to Naples when both clubs have signed the necessary paperwork.

As McTominay is expected to cost £25 million plus a 10% sell-on clause to Napoli, he will go down in history as one of the most expensive Scottish football players ever.

Since graduating from the academy, McTominay has played his entire career with Manchester United, although under current manager Erik ten Hag, he has not been able to maintain a regular first-team berth.

Although McTominay only has a year left on his Old Trafford deal, the English Premier League team is eager to cash in on him as they need to release players to meet financial fair play regulations and earn money for the signing of Manuel Ugarte from PSG.

Napoli finished tenth in Serie A last season and under manager Antonio Conte, they are rebuilding for another tilt at the top spots in the Italian top flight.

Sporting director Giovanni Manna spent last week in London doing transfer business and they are also hopeful of signing another Scotland midfielder in Billy Gilmour after agreeing a fee in the region of £12 for the Brighton man.

Italian clubs have tapped into the Scottish market recently, with Lewis Ferguson voted the league’s best midfielder last season due to his exceptional performances with Bologna.

McTominay will likely become a first-team regular at Napoli and is set to land a lucrative deal with the club.
