Blackburn Rovers want to lure 26-year-old back to England

Todd Cantwell, an offensive midfielder for the Rangers, is a target for Blackburn Rovers, according to Patreon reporter Alan Nixon. Until the end of the transfer window, Blackburn Rovers are considering making a bold bid for the Scottish Premiership player. They have till Friday at the latest to attempt to come to an agreement to entice him to Ewood Park.

The 26-year-old Cantwell signed with the Rangers in January of last year, but this transfer window has left his future at Ibrox uncertain. According to a recent story by the Scottish Sun, he has made two requests to leave this summer. Journalist Nixon asserted on Patreon that John Eustace is planning to make a move to bring him back across the border in the next few days. At this point, it is unclear if Rovers will be able to sign him long-term or on a loan.

Blackburn Rovers could see Cantwell as someone to help fill the void left by Sammie Szmodics’ exit to Ipswich Town.

Bringing in the Dereham-born man would be a big statement of intent by the Lancashire outfit and he would inject more quality into their ranks.

He rose up through the academy at Norwich City and was a regular for them at various different youth levels before breaking into their first-team in 2017.

During his tenure in East Anglia, the former England youth international made 129 appearances across all competitions for the Canaries, scoring 14 goals, and assisting them in being promoted to the Premier League twice. Cantwell also had brief periods of time playing for Fortuna Sittard and AFC Bournemouth away from Carrow Road. In 64 appearances since joining the Rangers, he has 14 goals scored. With Philippe Clement’s team, he won the Scottish League Cup the previous season.
Blackburn Rovers are now being linked but it is yet to be known whether they will be able to get him over the next couple of days.

In the meantime, Eustace’s side are back in action this evening in the Carabao Cup second round as they take on Blackpool of League One at home. They beat Stockport County 6-1 away in the first round.

Rovers then lock horns with rivals Burnley at Turf Moor as they look to keep their impressive start to the campaign going.
