Five breaking Celtic transfer stories about Valle, Engels, Bogusz, and Palma as Rodgers demonstrates how signing a game-changer can be

The in-demand left-back Alex Valle of Barcelona is about to join Premiership winners Celtic on a season-long loan.

And after giving the Spain youth international a one-year contract extension in Catalonia, manager Brendan Rodgers has been praised for being the game-changer who persuaded him to move to Glasgow.

Rodgers has assured gamblers that money would be spent following Matt O’Riley’s departure, so this week is sure to be hectic.

Valle may be the first to go; it’s believed that Celtic and the 20-year-old left-back have agreed to a 12-month contract, with a possible £2.5 million permanent deal later on.

Leading Barcelona insider Gerard Romero, who is recognized as the person with the best understanding of club operations, asserts that the Irishman was crucial in helping Valle go to Glasgow. “Àlex Valle goes on loan to Celtic and renews his contract with Barça for a season,” Romero said.

A significant factor in the player’s move to Glasgow is Brendan Rogers. He was persuaded to join his enterprise by him. He’s going to join the group and fly for a medical.”

Chairman Peter Lawwell received criticism from some supporters on Sunday due to their dissatisfaction with the lack of action, although Celtic are still in the running for a number of players, including £10m-rated Augsburg prospect Arne Engels and £8m-rated Los Angeles FC winger Mateusz Bogusz.

The Poland international Bogusz helped Olivier Giroud on Sunday night, but LAFC lost the Leagues Cup Final 3-1. After Bogusz was replaced in the second half, Celtic supporters are waiting for the all-clear.

The former Leeds United player, who can play a variety of positions, has spent most of his time up front this season.

Engels, who is still Celtic’s top choice to replace O’Riley, participated in Saturday’s 2-2 draw between Augsburg and Werder Bremen.

He is still a top goal for Parkhead, though, as sources suggest he is eager to leave the Bundesliga for a chance to play in the Champions League under Rodgers’ coaching.

With Daizen Maeda, James Forrest, and Nicolas Kuhn above of him in the Parkhead hierarchy, Palma has had difficulty getting playing time this season.
