Was Three Penalties Against St. Mirren Fair to Celtic?

With two penalties called against the Japanese forward for Celtic, Daizen Maeda was undoubtedly busy against St Mirren.

As Alex Gogic’s leg entwined itself around Maeda’s, Kris Boyd of Sky Sports remarked, “I think this one may be… You can see, I believe, that Gogic is merely getting his legs tangled up with Maeda. Stylian Petrov answered, “That could be, or it is.” In his own words, James McFadden said, “Yes, it’s a penalty on the first one.”

In the first half, Maeda too lost his footing, this time due to a collision with Celtic winger Shaun Rooney. The concept that the second incident should have been a penalty, nevertheless, did not sit well with the Sky Sports studio.

Boyd responded, “No, I don’t think it is this one.” “I don’t think Rooney even touches Maeda,” McFadden said, “but not on the second one.” However, Petrov said, “I think both of them are,” expressing his conviction that the two instances were penalties.

I believe I will be penalized if you rush at me with that kind of tackle. Both events undoubtedly generated conversation in the studio and most likely did the same with Celtic fans.

In the second half, Callum McGregor added to the shouts for a penalty when, in the 57th minute, the Celtic captain tried a rapid one-two with Paulo Bernardo in the St. Mirren area.

Roland Idowu, a replacement, impeded McGregor’s path. Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton said, “I think Callum McGregor actually ran into Roland Idowu.”
